If you do 3D Modelling, you owe yourself to try this online 2D Image Editing Tool

Okay, so, this has to be one of (one of) the most unplanned articles I've ever written for this blog, but I'm a little overexcited for this one (could also be the very large energy drink I've had - first one in a while also). Also this is a little hard to write, since I'm attempting to go into details without summarizing it.

This is possibly my favourite AI graphics tool, and it's online at cleanup.pictures, and it is very, very versatile. Like, there's a lot it can do, but it can't do everything, and one skill you might need to have is the ability to pic out the right pictures for what you're trying to do. As for skill levels, it's fairly easy for beginners to use, but as you go on, you'll find yourself getting more use out of it and being able to do more than a beginner would.

In order to discuss the uses cases for this tool, I have to crack a joke. See, Google must think I have very unique taste in women because I'm often looking up bald women and women with no eyebrows. Yes, I know. But the thing is, such pics are useful for a 3D artist looking to texture a 3D model.

So from my perspective, here are some of the things I like to do:

  • Remove the irises from eyes so it's easier to use the magic wand on them later on
  • Remove facial features, from faces, so new features can be put on
  • Remove the highlights from images so a diffuse albedo image (and subsequent specular image) can be created
Of course, before getting stuck in, I often just put a dot somewhere on the image so that I have an untouched image in case I need it.

So, yeah, if you're a 3D artist looking to texture a model nicely, you owe it to acquaint yourself with this tool.

Now, to be sure, you can do some of these effects with, e.g. Gimp, Krita, etc; using, say, the healing tool, or the clone tool, or something, but this is much faster, and you can easily layer one image on top of the other and use the eraser tool and/or create a new image from what's visible and if you edit THAT image, your results will be much crisper and cleaner.

Now I could do some tutorials, and I might at a later date, but if you're good with other the other aforementioned programs, I'd urge you to just consider the various potential uses and just experiment with it.
